METAL JACKETING SYSTEMS

ATG Aluminium Jacketing is manufactured from Aluminium Alloys AA3003 or AA3105 and laminated with the desired moisture barriers (PKMB/PSMB), providing excellent mechanical strength and weather protection for insulated piping, tanks, and equipment. The properties of these aluminium alloys offer the required strength to withstand in-service wear while remaining easy to fabricate and install. Aluminium’s resistance to atmospheric corrosion makes it ideal for use even in marine, chemical, and industrial environments, as well as LNG, gas, and power plants. It is also widely used in industries processing food and beverages, and for commercial applications such as chilled water systems, rooftops, and ducting. All bare and moisture barrier-lined metal jacketing products are produced according to the following standards: ASTM C1729-10A (Aluminium Jacketing Material Standard) ASTM B209M (Aluminium Standard for chemical composition and mechanical properties) Other standards are available upon request. The bare cladding and metal jacketing systems are available in thicknesses ranging from 0.30 mm to 1.20 mm. ATG strongly recommends the use of moisture barriers in all its jacketing products.

  • Polykraft Moisture Barrier (PKMB)
  • Polykraft consists of one layer of one mil polyethylene film with a protective layer of 40-pound virgin Kraft paper.

  • Polysurlyn Moisture Barrier (PSMB)
  • Polysurlyn Moisture Barrier is an engineered three-layer co-extruded film of polyethylene and Surlyn* polymers with a total film thickness of 3 mils (76 μm). PSMB is a superior moisture barrier as compared to PKMB.

PAINTED ALUMINIUM JACKETING

ATG Painted Aluminium Jacketing features a factory-applied, baked-on finish of highly durable hard film acrylic or polyester paint on the exterior surface. This painted finish enhances aesthetics, allows for colour-coding, increases emittance, and provides improved corrosion protection for aluminium jacketing used on pipes, tanks, and equipment. It protects the insulation and underlying pipe or tank from physical damage, UV exposure, corrosive atmospheres, and water. Painted aluminium jacketing is typically manufactured using alloys AA3105 or AA3003, which have very similar compositions and performance characteristics and are considered interchangeable for use as insulation jacketing.

  • Painted Aluminium Jacketing has a surface emittance As measured by ASTM C1371 of
  • All Colours except clear = 0.8
    Clear Coated = 0.5

Painted Aluminium Jacketing is recommended for use in

  • Painted Aluminium Jacketing is recommended to be used where a higher jacket emittance is desirable to allow reduction of the insulation thickness required to achieve condensation control or personal protection.
  • Also recommended to be used on Cold Pipe in Rooftop due to the generally more severe ambient conditions.
  • Recommended to be used where additional resistance to corrosion from the external environment is required such as in off-shore or marine applications and where particular aesthetics features are desired.

ALUMINIUM JACKETING PRODUCT DATA SHEET

Alumill Tech Gulf L.L.C. (ATG) aluminium jacketing is a metal jacket with a factory-applied, heat-laminated moisture barrier (PSMB/PKMB) on the inner side of the aluminium cladding. ATG aluminium jacketing is manufactured from wrought aluminium alloys AA3003 or AA3105, meeting ASTM standard B209. It serves as the premier protective outer surface for all mechanical insulation systems, including pipes, vessels, and equipment. The properties of these aluminium alloys provide the necessary strength to withstand in-service wear and abuse while remaining easy to fabricate and install. Aluminium’s excellent resistance to corrosion reduces costs through long service life without the need for maintenance or painting. ATG aluminium jacketing is available in smooth, stucco embossed, and 3/16" corrugated (cross-crimped) finishes. For larger surfaces, box-rib and deep corrugated sheets are also available.

  • Polysurlyn Moisture Barrier
  • The moisture barrier (PSMB) isolates the layers of insulation from the jacketing material, preventing moisture penetration and metal-to-metal contact, which helps avoid crevice, pitting, and galvanic corrosion. It also protects the insulation and the underlying pipe or vessel from physical damage, UV exposure, corrosive atmospheres, and water.
The Polysurlyn Moisture Barrier (PSMB) is a three-layer co-extruded system composed of polyethylene and DuPont™ Surlyn® polymers, with a total film thickness of 3 mils (76 μm). This barrier is heat-laminated in the factory onto the interior surface of the aluminium jacketing. The three-layer construction ensures the elimination of pinholes, providing excellent moisture resistance to the film.

  • Polykraft Moisture Barrier
  • The moisture barrier (PKMB) consists of a fine 1 mil polyethylene film combined with a protective layer of 40-pound virgin kraft paper. This moisture barrier is factory-applied by continuously laminating it to the full width of the metal cladding.

  • Compliance to standards
  • Both bare and Polysurlyn-lined ATG aluminium jacketing comply with the requirements of the ASTM Aluminium Jacketing Material Standard C1729, Type 1, which includes strength and chemical composition specifications in accordance with ASTM B209 (Aluminium Alloy Standard).

  • Surface finishes
  • All surface finishes available with ATG aluminium jacketing—smooth, stucco embossed, and 3/16" corrugated—are suitable for their recommended applications. All of these finishes can also be supplied with a painted exterior.

  • Smooth (plain mill) finish
  • The most popular finish, commonly preferred by many consultants and specifiers, is the smooth finish for its clean and sleek appearance. The smooth surface repels rainwater most effectively. However, it readily shows damage from hail or other physical impacts and tends to display dirt more visibly than other finishes due to its smoothness. Additionally, this finish is highly reflective of sunlight, which some specifiers consider a potential concern when used near roadways.

  • Stucco embossed finish
  • The stucco-like surface texture effectively hides small imperfections and scratches caused by physical damage during or after installation. This finish also reduces reflectivity while maintaining a professional appearance. Additionally, the stucco embossed finish provides a slight increase in rigidity and strength to the aluminium jacketing.

  • 3/16" Corrugated (cross-crimped) finish
  • The cross-crimped finish consists of parallel grooves or crimps, approximately 3/16" apart, running along the length of the pipe. This finish helps conceal small damages and scratches on the jacketing while reducing sunlight reflection. An added advantage of this jacketing is its ability to expand and contract, accommodating insulation movement caused by changes in pipe or ambient temperatures.

PAINTED ALUMINIUM JACKETING PRODUCT DATA SHEET

Alumill Tech Gulf L.L.C. (ATG) Painted Aluminium Jacketing features a factory-applied, baked-on finish of highly durable hard film acrylic or polyester paint on the exterior surface. This finish enhances aesthetics, allows for colour-coding, increases emittance, and provides improved corrosion protection for aluminium jacketing used in pipe, tank, and equipment insulation systems. The special paints used on this jacketing are chalk- and fade-resistant. They offer superior resistance to oxidation and various corrosive environments compared to bare aluminium jacketing. Additionally, the painted surface resists water and fingerprint staining. Like standard bare aluminium jacketing, painted aluminium jacketing serves as a premier protective outer surface for mechanical insulation systems on pipes, tanks, and equipment, protecting the insulation and underlying materials from physical damage, UV exposure, corrosive atmospheres, and water. ATG Painted Aluminium Jacketing is available in smooth, stucco embossed, and 3/16" corrugated (cross-crimped) finishes. For larger diameter or flat surfaces, painted deep corrugated sheets are also available. Painted aluminium jacketing comes standard with a 3-mil thick Polysurlyn Moisture Barrier (PSMB) heat-laminated to the interior surface to help prevent corrosion of the jacketing and the underlying metal pipe, tank, or equipment.
